On Wednesday, October 25, at 1:00 pm, EURO will host a talk by Edgar Illas, Associate Professor of Catalan. Framing the museum and contemporary art as spaces of aesthetic and political tension, this talk focuses on a controversy that erupted at Barcelona’s Museu d’Art Contemporani in 2015 over a sculpture by Austrian artist Ines Doujak titled “Not Dressed for Conquering.” The controversy, which prompted the resignation of the museum’s director, revealed various levels of a crisis involving colonialism, globalization, and Catalonia’s current process of disengagement from Spain’s constitutional order.
The talk will take place in GISB 4067. All are welcome!
