Film Festivals

EURO partnered with EUES centers at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison to host the European Film Festival, an annual event open to the public. The 2024 festival took place last February, featuring a total of four screenings on key themes of security, the environment, and decolonization. Films included Easy Living (Italy), Ramona (Spain), Mitra (Netherlands), and Somewhere Over the Chemtrails (Czech Republic). Each year, a filmmaker is hosted for a Q&A session after the screenings and visits relevant IU courses, including those in the IU Media School.

In collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh’s Europe’s Moving Images Film Festival, the festival will continue annually, with future events planned for 2025 and 2026, offering ongoing opportunities for the IU community and the public to engage with European cinema on important social and political issues.

Provenance Exhibition

At the Eskenazi Museum of Art as of January 26, 2025!

The IU Eskenazi Museum of Art’s Provenance Research Project investigates the histories of artworks that may have been affected by Nazi-era looting during the Second World War. Established in 2004, the project supports international efforts to address the restitution of looted cultural goods, inspired by the European Parliament’s 2019 resolution on restitution claims. A new exhibition dedicated to this research opened on January 26, 2025, providing visitors with insights into the ongoing work and its broader historical and policy implications. A virtual self-guided tour will also be available, highlighting provenance research and IU’s efforts to trace the origins of its European collections.
