Scholarship Competition for EU-bound student teachers
EURO supports the IU Global Gateway for Teachers program by providing travel funds to enhance the study of educational systems in the EU and promote student exchange mobility. The program has received strong praise from teachers, students, and host families in the EU for the positive impact of international students working within their communities. These connections foster closer ties between rural Midwestern communities like Bloomington and those across the EU.
For Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, EURO is offering scholarships for students applying for teaching “immersion” placements in European countries. Applications are reviewed based on prior study in the EU, language proficiency, financial need, and the commitment to promoting EU-US educational connections. Nine award winners have been selected for the upcoming placements.
Travel Grants Competition
EURO offers annual travel and research grants to faculty and students, supporting their ability to continue their work, produce new scholarship, and share their findings with the university community. These grants foster connections with academic partners in the EU and around the world. Each spring, a public call for applications is disseminated for faculty and student travel awards. Applications are reviewed by EURO senior staff and the EURO Advisory Board, with criteria focused on feasibility, alignment with EURO programming, and potential engagement with EURO constituencies following the completion of travel or research.

This project investigates the relationship between the security apparatus of the Kingdom of Italy at the turn of the 20th century and the Italian workers and itinerant laborers it surveilled, both within Italy and across global migration networks.

“From Exile to the Center: The Archive of Federico García Lorca”
EURO provided support for 8 days of archival work at the Lorca Foundation in Madrid. This work is essential for the final selection, imaging, and preparation of uncatalogued materials for a major international exhibit in Granada in October 2024, which the applicant is co-curating. The trip is critical to include over 100 crucial, previously unseen materials in the exhibit, accompanying book, and online virtual exhibit tour, significantly enhancing the research's impact and outreach.
