Meet EURO MA Katie Tamarri

By: Sara Couch with Katie Tamarri

Friday, October 31, 2025

Katie Tamarri began her Master of Arts in European Studies in the Fall 2025 semester
Why EURO?
I chose EURO because it offers incredible opportunities and a strong sense of community within such a close-knit department. I’m driven by the desire to make a difference in the world, and I believe that begins with the people I surround myself with. I’m truly grateful to be part of a passionate, fun, and hardworking group that inspires me every day.

Tell us about your research interests!
My research centers on human rights, with a strong focus on advancing equity for women. However, I recognize that the challenges of climate change, conflict, and unequal wealth distribution affect far more than one group alone. Currently, my work explores land rights for Indigenous communities, reproductive rights for women displaced by the war in Ukraine, and the ways feminist theory can sometimes mirror the patriarchal systems it seeks to challenge. I’m particularly drawn to questions of inequality, injustice, and how technology and policy can be shaped to create more inclusive and equitable futures.

What is your favorite class so far in the MA program?
I’m truly enjoying all of my classes this semester and how each one connects and builds on the others. Research Design with Dr. Sarah Bauerle Danzman has deepened my appreciation for research methodology, while Dr. Lucía Isabel Stavig’s course continually challenges and inspires me to confront complex and uncomfortable ideas with curiosity and purpose. My favorite class so far is Carl Pearson’s course on the epistemology of knowledge, it’s absolutely fascinating to explore how trends in knowledge are shaped and influenced. I love how the concepts we discuss directly connect to my work, my studies, and even my everyday perspective on the world.

Looking ahead: what's next for you after you graduate?
After graduation, I aim to build a career in the human rights sector, dedicating my efforts to creating meaningful impact for women and vulnerable communities worldwide. I envision myself working as a Program Officer at organizations like UN Women, UNICEF, or the IRC, or as a Human Rights Policy Analyst or Researcher at UNDP or a similar international institution.
