The Institute for European Studies is announcing its European Studies Research Paper Competition for undergraduate students. Through funding from the European Union’s Jean Monnet programs, we are soliciting student papers that meet the criteria below. We invite faculty members to highlight this opportunity in their Spring 2025 classes and encourage students to use any assignments or final papers to address the thematic requirements below.
This competition invites students to explore various aspects of European integration, current developments in European politics, society, and culture, as well as the EU’s role in the world. Submissions will be considered if they focus on one of the following areas:
(a) European integration, considering both its historical and contemporary aspects
(b) Current developments across various sectors in Europe, including politics, society, culture, the economy, and military affairs, among others
(c) Europe and the EU’s role in the global context
Papers may examine a single European country or broader regional or European-wide trends. Papers that examine one of the above themes in a comparative lens with a non-European context are also welcome.
